Some of you may know that in Trinidad & Tobago employers often sponsor kaiso (calypso) competitions. Many are replete with gifts, often cash prizes, and of course, bragging rights for the next year. Even the prison service hosts kaiso competitions for inmates where, funnily enough, there are often songs about crime :-). I attended the kaiso competition for Lake Asphalt of Trinidad & Tobago (LATT) this past Thursday night. It has grown tremendously from a small event at the company sports club to a show with many tents, vendors, security and parking assistance. The first prize is TT $10,000.
