News reports indicate that poet, musician, author and godfather of hip hop, Gil Scott-Heron, died this evening in New York. These photos were taken at Poets in the Park, in Baltimore, MD in July 2009. The crowd came out, they sat on the grass, in lawn chairs and on blankets and listened in awe. Some brought posters and old albums and after the show he took photos and signed autographs. It was a special treat to see Scott-Heron do his thing in the flesh.
