Thursday night a king and queen were crowned in what used to be up to last year the semi-final round of the Queen of Carnival and King of Carnival titles. To an empty North Stand and half empty Grand Stand 16 kings and queens as well as 10 each of junior king and queen entrants paraded across the stage at the Queens Park Savannah. Gloria Dallsingh, a mas veteran and winner of multiple regional titles placed first with a portrayal she designed herself, “Artemisia” D Warrior Queen from Ivan Kalicharan’s San Fernando band Call to Duty. Ted Eustace took home his second crown for his portrayal, Psychedelic Nightmares.

Ms. Dallsingh also has the esteemed position of being a competitor, grandmother, mother and mother-in-law of finalists in the competition as her daughter-in-law was one of her challengers in the queen competition, her son in the king competition and her grandson in the junior king of the band competition. There were three generations on stage competing from on family last night. Congratulations to Gloria Dallsingh, a super cool woman, serious mas veteran and competitor. Here’s a link to an interview I did with her five years ago for my Mas Women & Women Behind De Mas series.

Enjoy
