This week and next as Baltimore prepares for it’s carnival, which is now billed as the DC Carnival too, I hope to take us back to some of the images that made up the real capitol carnival. My intent is not to make it out to be more than it was – we know it was small, we know it comprised largely of bikinis and beads, and not the effusive outpouring of feathers and beads that folks have come to love and live for in T&T. But to some of us it mattered a hell of a lot, and the joy we shared coming down Georgia Avenue in the hot June sun was real folks, it was real. I hope you enjoy.
