Someone (a foreigner :-)) balked at the idea that there would be parties on a Sunday night. As a local replied, “Is carnival!” As in of course there are fetes on a Sunday night. Work be damned!
The fetes (ticketed) parties are often “all-inclusives” – all drink and food included with a hefty admission price – hosted by parochial schools as their major fundraisers. Sometimes they’re simply private fund raisers.
