This is Roland Guy. He has been playing Dame Lorraine for the past 35 years he tells me. Roland doesn’t just play Dame Lorraine, he gets right into it. The crowd loved his antics. Yes, the woman’s work is stereotypical, women are now as busy if not moreso with running companies, saving lives as surgeons, captaining soldiers in war. However, he’s got a point as his portrayal says, “A Woman’s Work is Never Done.”

If you want to know more about Dame Lorraine here’s some info from the Bloggin de Carnaval Series. Want to go deeper and learn about masking, gender switching and African traditions read up on the Yoruba tradition of Gelede.
